These are unique times for DISTRICT 3 and HRM. As we continue to recover from a global pandemic, residents are faced with great challenges. Providing basic necessities for our families, efficiently accessing essential services and feeling secure in our neighborhoods are more difficult than they should be.
There are, on the other hand, individuals, neighborhood associations, not for profits and charitable organizations that are facing these issues with passion, commitment and wisdom. It is the activists, advocates, volunteers - the people - who are stewarding our communities where it matters most. Having been a YOUTH ADVOCATE and TEACHER, I understand the importance of listening to our youth and giving them every opportunity to succeed. Having worked as a government CLERK, I have experienced the frustration - from both sides - of unnecessary bureaucratic barriers to service. Having grown up with and maintained ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUS, it is maddening to see development and industry pillaging the natural beauty and ecosystems of our coastlines and wetlands. Having VOLUNTEERED with a wide range of organizations, I recognize the importance of community investment and cooperation.
Thus far, I have had the pleasure of speaking with many residents of District 3. It became apparent that the issues concerning our friends and neighbors fit into (at least) one of three categories: AFFORDABILITY, ACCESSIBILITY & ACCOUNTABILITY. Addressing all three are essential to making HRM the city it could and should be. I discuss each of these issues below in more detail, but believe that all three can only be obtained through communication and collaboration with citizens, organizations and all levels of government.
I have spent the past 15 years living in District 3. I have experienced many of the challenges and shared the same concerns as my neighbors in Southdale, Shearwater and, now, Eastern Passage. Some are universal. Some are personal. No matter what the concern your elected representative is duty bound to work to resolve it transparently and efficiently. These are responsibilities I have always taken very seriously in my personal and professional endeavors and I will be no different as a member of Council.

We are committed to running a grassroots campaign with maximum contact and communication with residents and minimal environmental impact. Money, signs and buttons should not win elections. It is naive, however, to think they don't have an impact. They are a necessary evil in the modern political game. For those interested in helping out, we are offering a number of opportunities:
DONATIONS:
We are happy to take donations from supporters. Thus far, our most common donation amount has been $20. All are very much appreciated.
SIGNS :
To keep our costs and environmental impact of plastic signs low, we are ordering signs in smaller batches based on the number of requests we receive.
SHARE:
Let people in District 3 know that I'm running and share my page on Social Media.

Inaction and finger pointing have gotten us nowhere. I will work with all levels of government, community groups, the private sector & citizens to make District 3 and HRM affordable. I support rent caps, not-for-profit / co-operative housing options and sliding scale fees for municipal services. I will leave no stone unturned in helping resolve issues related to the housing crisis, food insecurity and the high cost of living.
I support policies for clear and comprehensive Accessibility Measures and those designed to help residents and organizations in HRM understand and implement Accessibility initiatives. We all must make a commitment to work with each other to make HRM fully accessible for all. Considering ‘Access’ in broader terms, council has a duty to consistently re-evaluate services, programming and infrastructure to ensure they are accessible, affordable and inclusive.
Many claim to be your voice in government, but how often do they ask for your opinion? I believe in cooperation, collaboration and clear communication. I will be ready, willing and able to consult with and report to residents of District 3 on all council matters. I am mindful of the wishes of youth, seniors and members of historically marginalized communities. Elected Officials must be willing to reach out to all of their constituents as a means of developing, implementing and assessing applicable government initiatives. We are all accountable to the environment and can no longer support policies that harm our people and places.
