I was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, but have lived in District 3 for the past 15 years with my wife Rebecca. Our four children joined us throughout the years. We currently live in Eastern Passage, but initially lived in the Gaston Road area followed by several years in Shearwater.
I was a proud member of Royal Canadian Navy (Reg Force and Reserves) for 9 years before I was medically released due to a serious knee injury. Prior to moving to Halifax, I taught in the public school system for 5 years. I have also had shorter stints working in retail, historical research and home care.
I have been very much involved in the arts sector as a performer, administrator, volunteer and board member since I was a kid. Most recently I have served as a board/committee member with organizations such as The Bus Stop Theatre, Eastern Front Theatre, Theatre Nova Scotia, The Atlantic Fringe Festival and Villain's Theatre.
I have also served on various community and government boards and committees since 1998 including: The Nova Scotia Youth Advisory Council, Nova Scotia Voluntary Planning, Cape Breton Filmmaker's Association and several other ad hoc / short term committees and boards usually in the Arts, Heritage, Youth, Seniors, and Community Event fields. I am a member of the Eastern Passage-Cow Bay Lions Club, The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op and Theatre Nova Scotia. Since releasing from the military, I have become involved with Para-Sport (Sled/Para-hockey and Para-Canoe) and have begun a University Certificate Program in Public Administration.
